The roads of Pelion are narrow and offer more turns than a corkscrew. For the most part a driver has to keep the car on third gear interrupted by the constant downshift to the second gear for just about every other turn. The few road stretches of road when the fourth gear can be used are a welcome relief to the challenge of driving in Pelion. As for a fifth gear, drivers of Pelion have no need for it! As challenging as the drive is on Mount Pelion, it takes place mostly in shade. The tall trees shelter the road from the sunshine, and for long stretches drivers feel as if driving through a foliage tunnel.
