The stadium of Delphi is perched on the hill, a short climb above the temple of Apollo and the theater. It was built sometime in the 5th c. BCE, and was remodeled several times. In the 2nd c. CE, during the Roman era, Herodus Atticus financed the stone seating and the arched entrance that we see today. It could accommodate about 6500 spectators. Its track is 177.55 m long (550 ft), and 25.50 m wide. It was used extensively during the Pythian games.
