Bronze Apollo of Piraeus
Previous | Home | Next
|

Rear bronze statue of Apollo from the Archaic era.
Many believe
that it was created in early 5th c. BCE,
while others place the date closer to 520 BCE.
Apollo is holding his bow in his left hand, and possibly
a
gold libation bowl
in his right hand. Unlike other
Archaic statues of the time (like the Kouros)
Apollo of Piraeus extends his arms way beyond the
sides of his body,
and he extends forward his
right leg isntead of the left.
Bronze, 1.95m tall. Piraeus Museum |
