Reconstruction of the mausoleum of Nikeratos and his son Polyxenos
at the
Archaeological Museum of Piraeus. Also known as mausoleum of Kalithea.
Nikeratos and Polyxenos were foreign residents of Attica (Metics)
originaly
from the shores of Black Sea and the town of Istros. The third statue
depicts
possibly a servant.
The whole monument was clearly influenced by the mausoleum
of Hallicarnassos,
and it features a frieze depicting a battle with Amazons under the Ionic
naiskos.
