Most local families make a living fishing the rich waters of the Ambracian gulf The Logaro Lagoon "Priari" is the locally built boat with flat bottoms.

A small building on the hill above the Salaora peer. Some more foundations of stone buildings are visible around the area. Most buildings were destroyed after liberation from the Ottoman empire The Ambracian gulf is protected wildlife refuse with many endangered species inhibiting its lagoons Koronisia village. The dome of the church of the Panagia shelters the fishing village from above. The church was build in the 7th century and its walls are decorated with frescoes.
A young stork tests its wings in preparation for its first flight. Storks must like living with people because they build their nests in the most prominent high points of the villages while other more suitable places exist outside the villages, and closer to their feeding grounds. Young stork soaring above Aneza village. A frequent sight during August when all the youngsters are preparing for migration. This is as close as I got to this Dalmatian Pelican. It is the largest flying aquatic bird in the world, and seeing one in its natural habitat is truly a treat.
The monastery of Panagia Rodia on the Northern end of Tsokalio (Rodia) lagoon. During the summer large parts of the lagoons dry out leaving a salty crust on the earth Cactus. Its fruit is tasty but its thorns are very aggressive. The locals harvest the fruit with pliers while staying up-wind so the hair-thin needles do not fly in their eyes.

The afternoon winds pick up every afternoon in Koronisia making the sea ideal for windsurfing or Kite-surfing. Agios Nikolaos church in Aneza; a fishing and farming traditional community in the middle of the Arta valley.
Salaora beaches are lined with thick layers of shells. Preparing to go fishing at 4:00 am The gulf is rich with fish, shrimp and cattle fish.
During our travels around the area we found this small cave near the monastery of Panagia Rodia on the small Vigla hill above the Tsokalio lagoon. The cave was tagged with graffiti all around. The cave was probably inhabited by local shepherds throughout the years, and was a hiding place for the resistance fighters during German occupation in WWII The passage became narrower and narrower the further we walked in. While local legend has it that there is no end to the cave, we did not want to test its depth without any caving experience or gear.
