Vathi Beach, Sifnos

Vathi Beach, Sifnos

Location

Sifnos

Beach Name

Vathi

Overall Rating

3=good beach, would choose it for swimming among other beaches if we were in the area. If we were visiting the area we would consider this beach a good place to swim.

Beach

S=sand (sandy beach)

Sea Floor

S=sand (sandy beach)

Water

3= Sea water was excellent and inviting for swimming. We would go out of our way to swim there again

(These are my, and my family's own unscientific observations of the water feel and appearance)
We enjoy the water when it is crystal clear, and cool instead of warm. We don' like visible floating particles of any kind or algae settled on the beach.

Topless sunbathing is not common

Good=paved road all the way to the beach, parking near the beach

T=
town within walking distance
H=hotel on the beach

RV / Camper Accessibility

Snorkeling

S=only sand bottom

Notes

Vathi is a tiny town that hosts a hotel as big as the town itself. The hotel has been built with multiple units that look like the local architecture so it really looks like an extention of the town itself. In fact, if it wern't for the huge swimming pool by the beach the hotel would have been invisible. The pool is only for hotel patrons but the part of the beach in front of it is the best. Some parts of the beach are lined with sun beds and parasoles for the hotel guests, but the rest of the beach is open to all.

Because the hotel blocks direct access to the beach, you have to park kind of far on the main road and then walk down a dirt road that brings you to a narro part of the beach not really suitable for swimming. A short walk to the left, through a very narrow beach (sometimes you have to walk in water) will bring you to the nice part in front of the hotel.

Visitors' Reports:

Richard from South Africa (2007)

Excellent village resort. The best place to eat is Manoli’s, right on the beach. Located on the way to the swimming beach in front of Ellie’s Resort Hotel. Excellent food, including traditional chickpea dish cooked on Sundays. Most of the vegetables served are from their own garden, behind the restaurant. Also check out the bakery and coffee shop next door, run by the same family. The sea around Sifnos is cold, but at Vathi is a little warmer because of being shallower and exposed to the sun for longer in the day, being on the west side of the island.
