This was our favorite swim spot near Athens until 2001. We went swimming there almost every day from Athens, but after that every time we went the waters were murky and not as clean as before. It's a large beach near Marathon, and there are popular spots where beach bars attract party crowds, so for this purpose it's probably a good place to hang out. These parts are usually cleaner, albeit much noisier. The rest of the beach suffers from neglect and trash. As much as we liked swiming there, we will never return again.

OK, this is a long beach with many different sections.. (Explore!) Avoid too many people and go close to the pine forest (past the "Karavi" beach club (nice + clubby if you are in the mood).. Try the area after the ex Olympic Rowing site.. (and then cut into an unpaved road to the beach) Beautiful and can get some shade, too. Water is very clear and clean. Sand outside could be cleaner (too many people too much trash flying around.. ) All in all very enjoyable. Best on week days and early or late in the season.Beach Report by (on file)

Comments: The beach is located in a lovely place, but in the summer season it is necessary - after every weekend - to clean the beach. I could not observe this regularly.

based on our subjective experience during our visit. We enjoy the water when it is crystal clear, and cool instead of warm. We don' like visible floating particles of any kind or algae settled on the beach.
