Location
Preveza, Near Parga
Beach Name
Sarakiniko
My Rating Overall
0 = will not return to this beach
Beach
Small Pebbles
Sea Floor
Small Pebbles
Water
0 = the water did not seem suitable
for swimming
(These are just my own unscientific observation of the water feel
and appearance during our visit)
My family and I enjoy the water when it is crystal clear, and cool
instead of warm. We don' like visible floating particles
of any kind
or algae settled
on the beach.
Clothing
Topless sunbathing is common
Access
Fair = accessible by car, poor road condition
Amenities
Restaurant (on the beach)
Bar (on the beach)
Organized beach
Camping on the beach
Hotel on the beach
RV / Camper Accessibility
Site
is unsuitable for RV parking (no room for campers near the site)
The road to the beach is steep, narrow, and twists endlessly downhill.
There might be areas where a large vehicle cannot fit.
Snorkeling
The rocks that frame the beach to the north and south look
promising but I did not dive
Notes
We visited the beach once in August 2003 and found the surface
of the water full of floating greenish particles. They looked like
algae or plant matter, they were everywhere and made swimming very
uncomfortable.
It is possible that
the floating materials drifted there only the day we visited,
but we will not return to find out if the water is clean any other
day, especially since the drive to Sarakiniko beach was not particularly
easy for us and the car.
There is not enough space for parking,
the beach is small and easily crowded.
The signs on the beach indicated that an umbrella costs €2.00,
and a sun bed another €2.00. Since usually they are leased
for the day as a set (two sun beds and one umbrella) you can expect
to pay €6.00 if you want some shade. Better yet, before you
drive to the beach buy your own beach umbrella for anywhere between €5.00
and €15.00 from any beach store.
The picture on the main road looks good, but driving a little
further north to reach Karavostasi
beach is probably better.
