Myrtidiotissa Beach

Location

Corfu, West coast

Beach Name

Myrtidiotissa
(other spellings: Myrtidiotisa, Mirtidiotissa, Mirtidiotisa, Myrtiotisa, Myrtiotissa, Mirtiotissa, Mirtiotisa)

My Rating Overall

5=superb beach, best we have visited and worth going far out of our way to swim there again

Beach

S=sand (sandy beach)

Sea Floor

S=sand (sandy beach)

Water

4=sea water was excellent and inviting for swimming. We would go out of our way to swim there again

Along with nearby Glifada beach, the best waters in Corfu

(just my own unscientific observation of the water feel and appearance)
My family and I enjoy the water when it is crystal clear, and cool instead of warm. We don' like to see any visible floating particles of any kind or algae settled on the beach.

Clothing

Topless sunbathing is common at the north end
Nude swimming is common

The South end of the beach is unofficially a nudist beach. It is crowded during the summer with a mixture of young and old, singles, couples and families.

Access

Poor=accessible by car, poor road, long walk or climb

Visited in summer 2002 and had to park 15 minutes up the hill near the monastery. The walk back up the hill is challenging. I did see some cars make it down to the beach, but the very steep gravel road is lined with huge crevices that can destroy any car.

Amenities

R=restaurant (on the beach)
C=cantina (on the beach)

RV / Camper Accessibility

N= site is unsuitable for RV parking. Impossible to drive right to the beach

Snorkeling

3=nice snorkeling site. Would travel a modest distance to snorkel

Notes

Best beach in Corfu.

BEACH Sand
SEA FLOOR Large Pebbles

CLOTHING Organized nudist beach
ACCESS Poor = Accessible by car, poor road, long walk or climb
CANTINA yes
RV, CAMPER ACCESSIBILITY Site suitable for parking for the day, but
not for camping
SNORKELING Good snorkeling site
COMMENTS The most relaxed nudist beach I had ever been to. Great
snorkelling in clean water. There is less of a beach than there used
to be a few years ago. The water that comes down from the hill has
dwindled a lot. If anyone goes there say hi to the gorgeous Stella
who sells jewellry there from Diana.

Comments A beautiful beach with a complete cross section of naturists both young and old.
Can become crowded but is always worth the effort of getting there - very steep semi made up road which takes about ten minutes to go down to the beach and about 25 minutes to go back up!
There is a good cantina near the bottom of the hill which serves very welcome cold drinks and a range of light meals/snacks.
There is an excellent snack bar on the beach from which you can also hire sun beds.
Definitely one of life's most rewarding experiences!

Now living in Canada, I can confirm my favourite beach is Myrtiotissa. Having been there in the 70's a couple of times. It is where I would like my ashes to be scattered.
The beach is one of the most wonderful places I have seen in my journeys thru many countries, as I am now approaching 57 yrs. of age.
Please go visit while you can. -- Susie, 2007

Just spent our 7th year going to mirtiotissa beach and as ever a simply stunning place. Ami and Spiros alternating with a greek/german couple are still manning the beach sandwich bar. The beach has returned to the size it was in previous years. The food was great and 40+ degrees of sunshine ensured an all over tan if required or white bits if you're shy. Too many cars and bikes now take advantage of the newly concreted road down when they should park for free at the wonderful elia bar complex at the top of the very steep " hill. -- Steve & Anna, 2007
