Makrigialos Beach

Location

Eastern Crete, Lasithi. At the south coast

Beach Name

Makrigialo

Other spellings: Makri Gialo, Makris Gialos, Makry Gialo, Makrys Gialos, Makrygialos, Makrigialos

My Rating Overall

1 = beach was fine for swimming and sunbathing one time

Beach

Large pebbles

Sea Floor

Sand

Water

2 = nice sea, we had a nice swim but we did not notice anything special about the water

(These are just my own unscientific observation of the water feel and appearance)
My family and I enjoy the water when it is crystal clear, and cool instead of warm. We don' like visible floating particles of any kind or algae settled on the beach.

Clothing

Topless sunbathing is not common

Access

Good = paved road all the way to the beach, parking near the beach

Amenities

Restaurant (on the beach)
B
ar (on the beach)
Town within walking distance
Hotel on the beach

RV / Camper Accessibility

Site is unsuitable for RV parking (no room for campers near the site)

Snorkeling

S = only sand bottom

Comments I have been to this resort on 3 occassions, and really enjoyed all 3 trips. Unfortunately on our last visit we arrive a couple of days after a very big storm, which basically wiped out the beach (well all the sand). I would recommend this resort for couple, older people and familys if children love the beach, as there is really not much else. I would not recommend if you want load music/bars/disco, etc.

Comments

We've been going to Makrigialos, on & off for the last 20 years. We've seen major changes such as the harbour being built but it still retains the qualities that attacted us in the first place. Good beach, very child friendly, food is generally good to very good and the bars are friendly. Our kids are now grown up and it is not teenager friendly - although they still occasionally come with us. Went in Oct for the first time this year. Different, less busy.

Have you been to this beach? and it will be published in this space.
