(These are my, and my family's own unscientific observations of
the water feel and appearance during our visit)
We enjoy the water when it is crystal clear, and cool instead of
warm. We don' like visible floating particles of any kind or algae
settled on the beach.

Good = Paved road all the way to the beach, parking near the
beach

Campers explicitly forbidden, or the site is unsuitable
for RV parking

Does not look promising, I did not dive

Topless sunbathing is common
Notes
Kardamena is the most "touristy" part of Kos, and its beach is a good place to swim. The narrow part of sand to the west of the town is too close to the main road but more quiet, as the beach gets more crowded near the town.
