Location
Attica, Near Athens
Beach Name
Avlaki
My Rating Overall
3=good beach, would choose it for swimming among
other beaches if we were in the area
Beach
LP=large pebbles (large pebbles comprise the beach)
Sea Floor
LP=large pebbles (large pebbles comprise the bottom of
the sea)
Water
3=very nice and clean sea. We would go swimming there again
if we were in the area
(just my own unscientific observation of the water feel and appearance)
My family and I enjoy the water when it is crystal clear, and cool
instead of warm. We don' like to see any visible floating particles
of any kind
or algae settled
on the beach.
Clothing
Topless sunbathing is common
Access
Good=paved road all the way to the beach, parking near
the beach
Amenities
OP=organized, entrance fee
RV / Camper Accessibility
P= RV Room for Parking. Site suitable for parking on the
side of the road for the day, but not for camping.
RV's can park at the beach parking lots which get packed with
cars during the day.
Snorkeling
N=does not look promising, I did not dive
Rocks at the North and South ends of the beach might be of interest.
Notes
This might be the best bet for swimming if you visit Athens. It
is a pain to find if you drive there.
As an organized beach (we paid € 4.00 per person in 2006)
it offers showers, restaurants (more like an open-air cafe than
a restaurant), changing rooms, umbrellas and beach beds, and has
a lifeguard on duty.
During the summer months it is packed with people and it is very
hard to find space under an umbrella. Even though paddle ball is
forbiden, there are so many balls flying around, and so many
people and children hit by the balls, that render this beach one
of the most annoying we have visited.
